Nose pointed to the sky, Quvianaqtuk Pudlat's Wolf in the Mist sings out across the wild Acrtic and perhaps also across Scotland's far north in times long past.

This print was created by Quvianaqtuk in 2023 as part the PrintArctic Project; a creative partnership between the renowned Kinngait Studios, located on Qikiqtaaluk (Baffin Island), in Nunavut, Canada and the acclaimed Scottish printmaking studios Edinburgh Printmakers. PrintArctic is supported by the Scottish Government’s Arctic Connections Fund.

Kinngait, Qikiqtaaluk [Baffin Island], Nunavut, Canada

Quvianaqtuk Pudlat gained his popularity initially from his work as a sculptor and is known for his carvings of animals and birds which are included in many fine collections, including the Montreal Museum of Fine Arts and the National Gallery of Canada. In recent years, his practice has transitioned towards the creation of drawings and prints, the first of which were included in the Cape Dorset Annual Print Collection in 2017. Quvi, as he is referred to by his friends, is a serious hunter and his keen observations of the natural world are reflected in the movement and anatomy of the animals in his compositions.

From 2002 to March 2023 Quvianaqtuk traveled to Scotland to participate in an international partnership project called PrintArctic which connected the acclaimed Kinngait Studios in Nunavut, Canada to Scotland’s Edinburgh Printmakers. Quvianaqtuk has exhibited widely throughout North America and he was recently featured in the 2023 Canada Pavilion at the Gwangju Biennale in South Korea.
