This Framed Art Card Print features the artwork of acclaimed Inuit graphic artist Kenojuak Ashevek. Without question, Kenojuak Ashevek is one of Canada's most acclaimed graphic artists, best known for playing a central role in bringing Inuit art and culture to international attention and acclaim over the course of her lifetime. This print is already framed and includes an artist biography and hanging attachments on the back, making it ideal for gifting.

Siilavut, Nunavut (Our Environment) was created by Ashevak in 1999 as an original diptych, lithograph print. April 1st, 1999 marked the official inception of the new Territory of Nunavut in Canada’s Arctic. To commemorate this historic event, a special edition of 99 prints was created by Ashevak.

Previously, one of her most famous works Nunavut Qajanatuk (Our Beautiful Land) was commissioned by Indian and Northern Affairs Canada to commemorate the signing of the Inuit Land Claim Agreement in Principle, in April 1990. To commemorate the signing of the Final Agreement early in 1994, Kenojuak conceived and hand-coloured a large and exclusive lithograph print entitled Nunavut.

Nunavut means “Our Land” in Inuktitut and is Canada’s largest province or territory, and by virtue of its demography is the only one controlled by one of Canada’s First Peoples.
