PADLOO SAMAYUALIE  

Padloo Samayualie comes from a family of well-known Inuit artists from Kinngait, including sculptors Qababuwa and Taraya Tunnillie, Keeleemeeoomie Samayualie and Elijakota Samayualie. Inspired by her time at an arts workshop in Banff, Canada in 2001 she further developed her interest in drawing alongside animation and jewellery making which she would later go on to study at the Nunavut Arctic College. 

Padloo is best known for her coloured pencil drawings. Her portaits often feature humorous and touching depiction of the inhabitants of Kinngait and her interest in seemingly mundane activities and objects; a fisherman putting on his boots, a host of utilitarian items scatted on a dinner table, collections of shoreline detritus such as feathers, animal

skeletons, and candy wrappers, have formed over time to chart the changing life-ways of Kinngait's inhabitants through her eyes.

Both the modernities of contemporary living in the arctic and the immersive qualities of landbased Inuit traditions are captured in her landscapes: from journeys made by dog pulled sleds across ice covered tundra, to nests of electrical cables that interest the brightly coloured buildings of her home. Though best known for her drawings she also works in sculpture and animation and is an accomplished jeweller.
