Nujalia Quvianaqtuliaq is a graphic artist and printmaker best known for his large scale, arctic landscape drawings which are composed of dense color forms and blocks created through minute strokes of coloured pencil and graphite.
His landscapes often border on abstraction, with both muted and vibrant colors being used to deficit sparse land and sea vistas interspersed with the minimalist geometries of neatly erected hunting camps and tents, the undulating ridges of coastlines, and the heavy weights of rocks, icebergs and islands surrounded by ice, sea and tundra.
Nujalia started his career in 2009 and later went on to develop an interest in printmaking through his involvement with the acclaimed Kinngait Studios where his brother Niviaksie worked as a printmaker. Nujula undertook an apprenticeship in their Lithography studios in 2014 and since then he has gone from a trainee to creating his own original prints and drawings which have become highly sought after for their rich color-ways and his uniquely skilful abstraction.
